Annual Forum 2017

Summary: Chasing Stars - at Sixpenny Handley

Date: Mar 2, 2017 16:00:00

Well known Dorset astronomer Bob Mizon, UK Co-ordinator for the Commission for Dark Skies, British Astronomical Association, will be one of the speakers at this year’s Cranborne Chase Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty Annual Forum.

During the forum, the AONB team will give a brief report of partnership achievements over the previous year, followed by an outline of the work about to be undertaken. There will also be short presentations from other invited guests.

The Cranborne Chase AONB is currently aiming to achieve 'International Dark Sky Reserve' status and Bob Mizon will be explaining what this means and how everyone within the AONB can help. Bob and members of the Wessex Astronomical Association will take interested parties outside for an evening of star gazing.

Attendees should come dressed in appropriate outdoor clothing for the weather in March. Torches can be brought for navigating to the session and red filters will be provided so that night vision isn’t spoiled.

Doors open at 4pm for the Annual Forum, when coffee and tea will be served. The event will start promptly at 4.30pm and finish at approximately at 9.30pm. A warming bowl of soup will be provided prior to Bob’s star-gazing event.

To allow the AONB to effectively plan ahead, and with numbers limited, please complete the online booking form by Friday 24th February or alternatively download the booking form and save and send by email to shirleymerrick@cranbornechase.org.uk
