National Hedge Laying Championship
Summary: See 10 hedge laying styles on display
The highlight of the National Hedge Laying Society's calendar is its annual championship competition, which takes place at Stourhead Estate, near Mere, Wiltshire (BA12 6QF) on Saturday 28 October.
Professional hedge layers will be arriving from all over the UK to compete for the title Supreme Champion. The day offers visitors the chance to see professional craftsmen demonstrating their skills as they compete for the ultimate prize. At least 10 hedge laying styles will be on display.
Hedgelaying is a country craft which has been practiced for hundreds of years, but it is just as relevant today as it always has been. Although agriculture has seen vast technological advances, it is generally held that there is still no machine which can replicate the skilled work of the hedgelayer.
