Following a review of the Awards for All England programme, changes are to be made to the small grants scheme’s existing format. Currently Awards for All England is a joint Lottery grants programme supported by Arts Council England, Big Lottery Fund, Heritage Lottery Fund and Sport England. BT Community Connections |
BT Community Connections has been run by BT's Corporate Responsibility Unit since 2000. The scheme targets community and voluntary groups that could benefit from internet access and ICT but don't necessarily have the resources. Reflecting the massive developments in technology the award scheme continues to evolve with different programmes providing community and voluntary groups with not only equipment, but also the skills needed to use ICT to its full potential.
BT Community Connections has just announced that it will be launching another year of the scheme on Tuesday 17 March 2009. The programme gives community and charitable organisations the chance to move into the world of technology, just by filling in a simple application form.

Funding for community shops in rural areas |
The Village Retail Services Association in partnership with Esmee Fairbairn Foundation and Co-operative and Community Finance have funding available to support the start up of new Community owned shops in rural areas of England or to save an existing shop by transfer to community ownership. The funding which will be available over the next three years will provide up to £40,000 per shop. This will be made up of a grant of £20,000 together with a loan of £20,000 from Co-operative and Community Finance.

Grants for planting trees |
The Tree Council, the lead tree campaigning charity working to promote the importance of trees within the changing environment has announced that its Trees for Communities and Trees for Schools grant making programmes are now open for applications. Funds are available for schools and community groups within the UK who are able to show that children under the age of 16 will be actively engaged in the planting projects. The Tree Council's National Tree Week (this year from 25 November to 6 December) is the focus for these projects and successful applicants organise their planting events in conjunction with our annual celebration of the new tree planting season. The Tree Council are able to fund projects between £100 and £700 and successful applicants will receive up to 75% towards their planting costs. For example, if your project totals £700, The Tree Council would offer up to £525. The remaining 25% will need to be secured by your school or organisation.

Sport England will launch a new £10 million fund to create sporting opportunities for people in rural areas. A wide range of organisations can apply, from local authorities to sports clubs and smaller community groups. The minimum grant available will be £10,000, but in order to maximise the positive effect on sport in rural areas, Sport England is explicitly encouraging high value, high impact projects.
