Call In Inquiry - Land east of Shaftesbury Proposal for 700 houses

01/01/2007

A proposal to develop land for 700 new houses on an area of 23 hectares to the east of Shaftesbury has had significant input from the AONB team locally. The AONB Management Plan was adopted by NDDC (plus other local Authorities in the AONB) in 2004. The potential route for a Shaftesbury bypass follows the external boundary of the potential development area, therefore proposals to build up this area to the east of Shaftesbury has been "called in" for a decision by the Secretary of State because a large area of green fields would be built upon.

One of the reasons for demanding the Environmental Input Assessment for development in this locality is the presence of the AONB - a nationally designated part of the nation's natural and cultural heritage.
