AONB Outstanding Information Leaflets

Outstanding new information leaflets for local businesses and visitor attractions have just been released. The leaflets cut through cross county boarders and enable us to celebrate this beautiful and distinctive area by uniting the region and celebrating our hard working, independent businesses; those who have held a dream, gone on to take a risk and now need the local community to support them.

The sister leaflet titled “Our Outstanding Natural Playground” serves as a visitor information leaflet and map for the AONB. This provides detail on landscape character and why this region has been classified as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

In October the AONB will be holding an “I’m and Outstanding Shopper” campaign, more details of this will follow, although any business wanting to get involved should contact us. You can download the leaflets here or pick up a copy for car at most farm shops, independant shops or libraries locally.

Green Fuels Fact Sheet - Why are the Fields Yellow?

23/09/2008

As we all know, living in the countryside means we need to travel further to do everyday tasks. That means we use more fuel, produce more carbon emissions and spend more on travel. Of course using our cars less is a great idea but sometimes it is just not practical. Instead we should be trying to reduce our cars impact on the environment.

Using green fuels instead of normal fuels is one solution, but all the different types of fuels make it all so confusing!! Here we describe it all in a little more detail.

Wiltshire Wayfarer Autumn 2008

20/01/2009

The Rights of Way Newsletter for Wiltshire County Council
Wiltshire’s footpaths, bridleways and byways provide an excellent way to appreciate the beauty and the history of the landscape. This issue takes a look at how some of these paths came into being, and features the plans of the Friends of The Ridgeway to create an extension of The Ridgeway from Avebury to Stonehenge, to be known as The Great Stones Way. We also share the adventures of the Disabled Ramblers on their recent journey around the Imber Range Path and include a recommended route which takes in some of the beautiful views from the Salisbury Plain and is available to everyone, including anybody whose disabilities confine them to the use of a car, to enjoy the countryside.

Local Action for Rural Communities (LARC) - Documents to Download

Community leaders in North Dorset and South West Wiltshire are celebrating the award of a £2.85 million grant for community-led projects that will bring added economic value to the area.

The Community Partnerships Executive for North Dorset (CPEND) and the Cranborne Chase & West Wiltshire Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) submitted the bid for Local Action for Rural Communities (LARC) funding.

The grant has been awarded by the European-funded Rural Development Programme for England (RDPE) 2008-2013 which is managed by the South West of England Regional Development Agency.

The bid was submitted under the title “Sowing SEEDS”, an acronym for:
* Supporting rural business
* Enhancing the environment
* Empowering young people
* Developing opportunities from local culture and heritage
* Sustaining local communities

The funding must be used for innovative and exciting community-led projects which use the environmental assets of the area to bring economic value to communities, such as local food, local products, sustainable construction, improving skills, or engaging young people. Some very exciting projects have been proposed in response to the initial consultation about the fund.

The funding will be allocated to a geographical area encompassing all of North Dorset, most of South and West Wiltshire and parts of East Dorset. However, a large part of the rest of Dorset will also benefit from a further £3.1m European grant also awarded this week to the Chalk & Cheese Local Action Group which is currently responsible for delivering the LEADER+ programme.

Funding for the programme will be managed by the Dorset regeneration company, D2, which will also have responsibility for managing the Chalk and Cheese LAG.

Processes and protocols are currently being drafted to administer the allocation of money to potential recipients who will be selected through an objective appraisal process. Applications will be invited during early 2009 from organisations hoping to benefit from the funding but only the best projects from the strongest submissions will be successful. A provisional date of 12th February has been set as the launch date for the programme, do contact the office for an invitation to attend if you are keen to learn more on this new exciting rural funding programme.

Details of how to apply and criteria for the scheme will be released in the very near future. Watch for further information in the local press and the following web sites: www.north-dorset.gov.uk and www.ccwwdaonb.org.uk.

The funding, which will be channelled through the South West of England Regional Development Agency, comes from the European Community and is completely separate from any form of local government taxation.
